EMV 3D Secure 2 Overview
EMV® Three-Domain Secure (3DS) is a messaging protocol developed by EMVCo to enable consumers to authenticate themselves with their card issuer when making card-not-present (CNP) e-commerce purchases. The three domains consist of the merchant/acquirer domain, issuer domain, and the interoperability domain (e.g., Payment Systems).
Elavon's Fraud Services Gateway solution leverages 3D Secure 2 to help prevent unauthorized transactions and protect merchants from exposure to fraud. Transactions that have been authenticated by the issuer provide a liability shift to the merchants for fraudulent transactions. For merchants looking for PSD2 Strong Customer Authentication management, our solution is also a conduit to meet those requirements and apply exception handling.
