Wifi Standard (Home) vs. Enterprise Security
The principal differences between Wifi Standard (Home) and Enterprise Security can summarized as follows:
Standard (basic Wifi security)
Requires: SSID and Passphrase:
- SSID - can be hidden or broadcast
- Standard channel details
- 2.4 GHZ - Fully supported
- 5 GHZ - Supported, except Hidden SSID - If Wifi SSID is Hidden, Ingenico Pin Pad cannot handle DSF Channels.
- Standard channel details
- Passphrase - 63 Bytes (Alpha, Numeric)
Note: The following special characters are not supported for SSID and Passphrase:
- “\” (backslash)
- “~” (tilde)
- “,” (comma)
- “%” (percentage sign)
Enterprise Security (server controls connection)
note
To implement Wifi Enterprise, consult with your Elavon representative.
Requires: Standard Security plus Enterprise Security Details:
- SSID
- SSID Passphrase
- Certificate
- Certificate Password
The following table summarizes these differences:
Network Details Required | Standard Security | Enterprise Security |
---|---|---|
Service Set Identifier (SSID) | Yes | Yes |
Passphrase | Yes | Yes |
Certificate | No | Yes |
Certificate Password | No | Yes |
Updating Security Details
- The SSID and Passphrase can be updated manually on the PIN pad.
- Networking Certificate information is updated manually. An Elavon Solution Engineer requests a new Simplify package that includes the merchant’s updated Certificate.

Renaming a Paired Device with a User-Friendly Name
To facilitate working with a paired device (e.g. a computer running the POS application), it is recommended that the device be renamed with a user-friendly name. To rename a computer:
- Go to Windows Bluetooth settings on the computer and remove the pairing with the terminal. Restart the computer.
- Start the terminal and use the green key to access the Elavon Main Menu. Select Wireless, then Bluetooth Setup.
- Select Paired Devices from the Bluetooth Setup menu. Select the computer, then select Disassociate to remove the pairing.
- Select Advanced options from the Bluetooth Setup menu, then Rename. Type in a user-friendly name for the computer and press the green key.
- Select Add peripherals from the Bluetooth Setup menu. Select the computer under its new name. A pairing code will be displayed.
- On the computer, go to Windows Bluetooth settings and select the terminal from the list of available devices. A pairing code will be displayed. Verify that this code matches the code displaying on the terminal and press OK.
- Exit the Bluetooth Setup menu and allow the terminal to reboot
- The terminal is now ready to connect to the computer via Bluetooth, under its new name.
Connecting the Simplify Terminal to a Device
- Go to the Bluetooth Setup menu and select Add peripherals. A list of available devices will be displayed. Select the device you want to connect to. You will then be prompted to select the device type. Select Other.
- A pairing code will appear on the terminal. This code should match the pairing code displayed on the device you want to connect to. If the codes match, press OK to validate the code appearing on the terminal. The message “Pairing successful” will be displayed.
- After the device is paired, exit the Elavon Main Menu and allow the terminal to reboot. Once the terminal has booted, it is ready to connect to the device.
GPRS Setup
For Move 5000 devices, Simplify supports the use of GPRS for host communications (an Elavon provided SIM card must be present in the device).
GPRS can be selected as the host communications type under Communications Setup. Another selection tells Simplify to use GPRS w/WiFi priority (use GPRS only if WiFi is unavailable). In either case, GPRS (when used) will operate as configured under GPRS Setup.
The host communications type is set under Communications Setup. Besides selecting GPRS, this menu can be used to select GPRS w/Wifi priority. In either case, GPRS (when used) will operate as configured under GPRS Setup.
If GPRS is selected, Simplify will attempt to connect to GPRS during initialization. If connection is lost, Simplify will attempt to re-connect when idle.
