Communications Setup

The Communications Setup menu can be used to select the communications type used for Simplify-POS, Simplify-host, and Simplify-HEM communications. Selected methods must be supported on your configured package.

Communication types selected on this menu can be configured under POS Setup, Network Setup and/or Wireless Setup.

This menu also allows Wifi and/or Bluetooth to be disabled.

Available Parameters

Note: All references to TCP/IP on Communications Setup screens refer to TCP/IP over wired ethernet.

  • Comm Option - Can be used to enable/disable Bluetooth to Base. Set to Bluetooth to enable or Use Others to disable. If enabled, TCP/IP over Bluetooth to Base will be used for POS to Simplify, Simplify to Host, and Simplify to HEM communications (configured settings will be ignored).

Note: Bluetooth to Base is only supported on the Move 5000 and iWL25x.

  • POS to Simplify - View/modify the communications type used between the POS and Simplify. Supported methods are:

    • POS client to Simplify server using TCP/IP (default), Wifi, RS232/USB, Bluetooth to Base, or native Bluetooth.
    • POS server to Simplify client using the same methods as above with the exception of native Bluetooth. Only used for Pay@Table and HPI. Important: Do not select POS server to Simplify client without consulting your Elavon representative.
  • Simplify to Host - View/modify the communications type used between Simplify and the host. Supported methods are Simplify Client to Host using TCP/IP (default), Wifi, Bluetooth to Base, POSRoute and (displayed on Move 5000 only) GPRS and GPRS w/Wifi priority. Note:

    • POSRoute sends Simplify-host messaging via the POS, using the communications type defined under POS to Simplify.
    • GPRS w/Wifi priority uses GPRS if Wifi is unavailable. GPRS is not used if Simplify attempts to send a transaction by Wifi and encounters a communications error.
  • Simplify to HEM - View/modify the communications type used between Simplify and HEM (the Ingenico update server for Simplify). Supported methods: Simplify Client to HEM using TCP/IP (default), Wifi, and Bluetooth to Base.

  • Wireless Switch - Select to display a screen allowing the user to disable Wifi and/or Bluetooth to conserve the battery (applies to both Bluetooth to Base and native Bluetooth). If disabled, the corresponding icon will not appear in the Status Bar.

Note: Wireless Switch is typically disabled by configuration. Contact your Elavon representative for the use case for this parameter.
