Authorization Only (01)

If the purchase associated with this authorization is never generated and settled, the authorization expires and the amount held is eventually released.

  • Auth Only is the beginning of an electronic payment transaction. Tracking data is received from the transaction processor and card-issuing bank and automatically stored and sent during settlement.
  • Transaction processors and card issuers generate and return tracking information during Authorization Only that must be carried through to transaction completion, which occurs when the purchase is generated and settled.

Unsettled Authorizations

Track the Elavon Token or Unique ID in the POS application (not required to retain customer account number) from the original authorization.

Account Verification (Type 01)

Account Verification (Type 01) for an amount of $0.00 is considered an Account Verification transaction and does not verify or hold open-to-buy.

  • Places a hold on the cardholder open-to-buy credit account or available credit amount.
  • Can perform AVS, CVV2, CVC2 or CID requests.
  • Transaction is stored in the Elavon Gateway applications or added to an existing Authorization for the same transaction.
  • Can be used to complete an Account Verification, which authorizes a card for $0.00, placing no hold on the open-to-buy.
    • AVS (Billing ZIP Code and Billing Street Address) and CVV2, CVC2, or CID required.
    • Transaction is stored in the Elavon Gateway applications, but is not a financial transaction that can be used later for settlement or incremental auths.
    • Does not require a full authorization reversal and avoids the misuse of Authorization Fee.

Cannot be used to settle or authorize other transactions.

Voice Authorization (Type 01)

If an Authorization Only (Type 01) transaction is run and the clerk receives a message to call for voice authorization, add the transaction to the database once the clerk obtains the approval code from the processor.

To add the transaction to the database:

  1. Submit Authorization Only transaction (Type 01).
  2. Enter approval code received from the processor into Authorization Code (Field 6).
  3. Set the Force Flag (Field 12) value to 1.

The transaction is recorded in the Elavon Gateway application database rather than submitted to the TPP for approval.

The example below is a transaction with partial authorization acceptance approved original amount, and is for a manually entered authorization only.

The TPP interface you use determines the actual fields returned in the output response. If the interface requires the data, it is returned in the format required by the processor.
