Type of Gift Card Transaction

The type of Gift Card transaction is indicated by three fields:

  • Tran Type (Field 1),

  • Transaction Qualifier (Field 115), and

  • Stored Value Function (Field 117).

The following table displays how these fields are used to indicate the type of Gift Card transaction.

Note: If the POS process times out waiting on a response to a Gift Card message (other than Balance Inquiry), the POS process should perform the Inquiry logic as described above. See Inquiry Message for details.

Note: As for all tenders, gift card account numbers are encrypted.
